Arrival at truth is many-layered… because it requires… the lifting of veils. It requires quietude and introspection. Today men speak of evolution… revolution… even devolution. Yet too few speak of involution – looking inside one’s self, or turning inward – that they may look before they leap.

Living Outside the Dialectic
On Furthering the Capitalist versus Communist Conflict
By Niki Raapana
Last night I looked at how compelling the forces working within the dialectical games are. I see steady pushing in the right v left arena. I see the conflict written out in plain English everywhere I go. And, what's really interesting is to see how the synthesis is being more often lumped back in with the sides against capitalism. It's apparent to me now that no matter how much right or left patriot Americans learn about the communitarian synthesis, they usually revert right back to the communist versus capitalist arguments, which do nothing but help push the solution!
In my humble opinion, we would all be much better off in opposing the horrible solution, the political, social and legal framework for regional and international Communitarian Integration. The new planning law, this new spiritual law that in some nations is now part of their revised constitutions, is not called communism or capitalism. If it's called socialism at all, it's called Communitarian Socialism, or in less official documents, Market Socialism.
Americans could so easily find the premise for many new laws in the United States if they stopped using the outdated words communism and socialism AND capitalism. We'd be much better off focusing serious attention on the growing body of regulations that balance individual liberty against the common good. Our people should be looking for the words Communitarian or Community when studying recent, drastic regulatory changes to local, state and national standards and norms. Citizens could find their newly formed agencies enforcing the new communitarian laws, if only they knew the legal term Community is different from the word.
Communitarian Law and Community Law are exactly the same terms and are used interchangeably in the international legal arena. All UN, EU and WTO and Regional Unions are based in the Supremacy of Communitarian Law clause.

The Ultimate World Order As Pictured in "The Jewish Utopia"
"THE JEWISH UTOPIA", discovered by the author in an unlisted Jewish collection in the library of the University of Texas, is the authentic and complete plan of the Zionists for world domination. It pictures the ultimate "new social order" which the Zionists hope to establish after they have used Communism, democracy and a third world war to gain their ends.
THE ULTIMATE WORLD ORDER is an analysis of "The Jewish Utopia", with photographs and excerpts from the original text.
"The Jewish people as a whole will become its own Messiah. It will attain world dominion by the dissolution of other races, by the abolition of frontiers, the annihilation of monarchy and by the establishment of a world republic in which the Jews will everywhere exercise the privilege of citizenship. In this New World Order the "children of Israel" will furnish all the leaders without encountering opposition. The Governments of the different peoples forming the world republic will fall without difficulty into the hands of the Jews. It will then be possible for the Jewish rulers to abolish private property and everywhere to make use of the resources of the state. Thus will the promise of the Talmud be fulfilled, in which is said that when the Messianic time is come, the Jews will have all the property of the whole world in their hands."

INCREDIBLE: Must Read: A Real Case Against the Jews... written in 1928 by a Jew in The Century Magazine
This is the hard, harsh, hideous truth - straight from the mouth of a Jew. I love history, and I must tell you, White people of European descent experienced 2 times of greatness. The first time was under the Roman Empire, and the second was under a new Judeo-Christian philosophy, which is now disappearing.
If you look at what we now know about history, we can look back on the great Roman Empire and we can see that its fall brought 1,000 years of darkness to Europe. In its time, the Roman Empire was at least 1,000 years ahead of others. The Romans invented concrete, the Romans were simply amazing.
But the arrival of Christianity was a severe threat. The Romans of those times went out and murdered Christians because they were the communists of their day. And if you read historical studies like Gibons' famous: "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" you will see that he attributes the rise of Christianity to it.
This is an article written in 1928 by a Jew, who gives it to us straight. He tells us that we have thrown away the values which actually brought us greatness under the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire, I might add, was very logical. The Romans were a very pragmatic people. The Romans were religiously tolerant of many religions, except for Christianity.
The Roman Empire was the greatest and longest lasting political structure ever created by men anywhere to my knowledge. And in its day, it was technologically way ahead of its time. Its laws and structures brought peace and progress in a way never seen before.
Read this article by a Jew. It will shock you to a core, and you can check all his facts. He is completely right. Jan]
This frank piece by the Jewish writer Marcus Eli Ravage constitutes a “revelation of the method” in that he fully expected most of his upper class readers to completely misread it as irony — as they do to this day.
By Marcus Eli Ravage
Reprinted from The Century Magazine, January 1928
OF COURSE, YOU DO resent us. It is no good telling me you don’t. So let us not waste any time on denials and alibis. You know you do, and I know it, and we understand each other. To be sure, some of your best friends are Jews, and all that. I have heard that before once or twice, I think. And I know too, that you do not include me personally — “me” being any particular individual Jew — when you fling out at us in your wholesale fashion, because I am, well, so different, don’t you know, almost as good as one of yourselves. That little exemption does not, somehow, move me to gratitude; but never mind that now. It is the aggressive, climbing, pushing, materialistic sort you dislike — those, in a world, who remind you so much of your own up-and-coming brethren. We understand each other perfectly. I don’t hold it against you.
Bless my soul, I do not blame anybody for disliking anybody. The thing that intrigues me about this anti-Jewish business, as you play at it, you make such fantastic and transparent excuses, you seem to be suffering from self-consciousness so horribly, that if the performance were not so grotesque it would be irritating.
It is not as if you were amateurs: you have been at it for over fifteen centuries. Yet watching you and hearing your childish pretexts, one might get the impression that you did not know yourselves what it is all about. You resent us, but you cannot clearly say why. You think up a new excuse — a “reason” is what you call it — every other day. You have been piling up justification for yourself these many hundreds of years and each new invention is more laughable than the last and each new excuse contradicts and annihilates the last.
Not so many years ago I used to hear that we were money-grubbers and commercial materialists; now the complaint is being whispered around that no art and no profession is safe against Jewish invasion.
We are, if you are to be believed, at once clannish and exclusive, and unassimilable because we won’t intermarry with you, and we are also climbers and pushers and a menace to your racial integrity.
Our standard of living is so low that we create your slums and sweat industries, and so high that we crowd you out of your best residential sections. We shirk our patriotic duty in wartime because we are pacifists by nature and tradition, and we are the arch-plotters of universal wars and the chief beneficiaries of those wars (see “The protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.”)
We are at once the founders and leading adherents of capitalism and the chief perpetrators of the rebellion against capitalism.
Surely, history has nothing like us for versatility!
And oh! I almost forgot the reasons of reasons. We are the stiff-necked people who never accepted Christianity, and we are the criminal people who crucified its founder.
But I tell you, you are self-deceivers. You lack either the self-knowledge or the mettle to face the facts squarely and own up to the truth. You resent the Jew not because, as some of you seem to think, we crucified Jesus but because we gave him birth. Your real quarrel with us is not that we have rejected Christianity but that we have imposed it upon you!
Your loose, contradictory charges against us are not a patch on the blackness of our proved historic offence. You accuse us of stirring up revolution in Moscow. Suppose we admit the charge. What of it? Compared with what Paul the Jew of Tarsus accomplished in Rome, the Russian upheaval is a mere street brawl.
You make much noise and fury about the undue Jewish influence in your theatres and movie palaces. Very good; granted your complaint is well-founded. But what is that compared to our staggering influence in your churches, your schools, your laws and your governments, and the very thoughts you think every day?
A clumsy Russian forges a set of papers and publishes them in a book called “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” which shows that we plotted to bring on the late World War. You believe that book. All right. For the sake of argument, we will underwrite every word of it. It is genuine and authentic. But what is that besides the unquestionable historical conspiracy which we have carried out, which we never have denied because you never had the courage to charge us with it, and of which the full record is extant for anybody to read?
If you really are serious when you talk of Jewish plots, may I not direct your attention to one worth talking about? What use is it wasting words on the alleged control of your public opinion by Jewish financiers, newspaper owners, and movie magnates, when you might as well justly accuse us of the proved control of your whole civilization by the Jewish Gospels?
You have not begun to appreciate the real depth of our guilt. We are intruders. We are disturbers. We are subverters. We have taken your natural world, your ideals, your destiny, and played havoc with them. We have been at the bottom of not merely the latest Great War but of nearly all your wars, not only of the Russian but of nearly every other major revolution in your history. We have brought discord and confusion and frustration into your personal and public life. We are still doing it. No one can tell how long we shall go on doing it.
Look back a little and see what has happened. Nineteen hundred years ago you were an innocent, care-free pagan race. You worshipped countless Gods and Goddesses, the spirits of the air, of the running streams and of the woodland. You took unblushing pride in the glory of your naked bodies. You carved images of your gods and of the tantalizing human figure. You delighted in the combats of the field, the arena and the battle-ground. War and slavery were fixed institutions in your systems. Disporting yourselves on the hillsides and in the valleys of the great outdoors, you took to speculating on the wonder and mystery of life and laid the foundations of natural science and philosophy. Yours was a noble, sensual culture, unirked by the prickings of the social conscience or by any sentimental questionings about human equality. Who knows what great and glorious destiny might have been yours — if we had left you alone.

Who Were the Israelites?
By John Desborough
The following is an abridged excerpt from an unpublished book manuscript written by Brian Desborough. Biblical history, in the form it has been presented to us, is not an accurate depiction of Middle Eastern antiquity, but is largely a synthetic creation by biblical scholars whose interpretations of ancient events are often influenced by their own ideologies, and those of their academic overlords.
As an example, we have to look no further than the claim made by countless scholars that Qumran was the site of a monastery, occupied by Essenes diligently writing their scrolls. Such a claim is ludicrous when we consider that the Essenes were "zealous for the Law". Why then, would the Essenes violate their sacred Law by residing at Qumran, adjacent to latrines and a large cemetery not to mention a lack of water acceptable for ritual bathing? If the Dead Sea Scrolls were intended for posterity why were so many of them mutilated by slashing or burning at one end, and how do we explain the absence of calcium carbonate in the cisterns used for laundry purposes? And what were ancient perfume bottles doing in a monastery? (1)
The notion that Qumran was an Essene monastery was promoted by Father Roland de Vaux, who supervised The Qumran research until his death in 1971. As a Dominican priest, he was well acquainted with monasticism, and this presumably contributed to his myopic view that Qumran had been a monastery, despite archaeological evidence to the contrary. An in-depth analysis of the Qumran site is presented in the author's book manuscript.
What we perceive as biblical and more recent history, is largely propaganda disseminated in order to legitimize the actions of the victors of bloody conflicts or coups. The vilification of King Richard III stems primarily from the pen of Sir Thomas More, who conveys the impression that he was a contemporary of Richard. In actuality, he was less than six years old at the time of Richard's death. His writings were an attempt to legitimize the usurpation of the throne by the Tudors. This vilification was extended in the Shakespearean play in which the hapless monarch is portrayed as a hunchback with a withered arm. This inaccurate portrayal was perpetrated because in that era, it was popularly believed that a deformed person was evil
During the past century, archaeological excavations in The Holy Land have revealed a more realistic portrayal of life in ancient Israel than that presented by successive generations of theologians, who have elected to obfuscate the true patterns of the past in order to elevate their own importance in the overall scheme of things.
A great deal of innocent blood has been spilled in recent years in defense of Israeli claims that Israel belongs to the Jews by virtue of divine right, as depicted in the Old Testament. Does it not behoove us, therefore, to ascertain whether or not the Old Testament is accurate in this matter? (2)
The theocratic institution of Judaism has exerted a major geopolitical, spiritual and occult influence upon humankind, in part because it modified and popularized the Cabala and the infamous Babylonian Talmud. (3) It is important to remember, dear reader, that the Old Testament was not written until after the end of the Babylonian captivity period, which means that many events were not committed to writing until several centuries had elapsed. This is why claims such as the Israelite occupation of Canaan by means of conquest, as described in the Book of Joshua, lack credibility; in fact, it we delve deeply into the patterns of the past, it would appear that the genocidal activities of the psychopathic Joshua and Moses, as depicted in the Bible, never occurred.
Although the Bible displays many inaccuracies, therefore invalidating any pretence to being a divinely-inspired work, we should not ignore the Bible as a historical source, for it contains many nuggets of historical truth: it therefore behooves us not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
In attempting to reconstruct the historical origins of the Israelites and their religion, it is well to note that Judaism as we know it today, is derived from a rabbinic system only dating back to the second century of the present era. It is claimed to be a continuation of Pharisaic teachings which were formulated during the aftermath of the Maccabean revolt (168-164 B.C.).
Archaeological evidence is indicative that Judaism, during its formative period, assimilated cultic beliefs acquired from neighboring peoples, and is, therefore, not the uniquely original religion that religious purists would have us believe.

Right On Time:
The Mathematics and Exegesis of a Startling New Chronology of Messiah
Abstract
This book is an instruction manual. It guides the Christian in showing anyone, his pastor, his church mate or his next-door doubter, using his religion's own sacred book the Bible, what date his own Savior was born on.
It begins by challenging the age-old consensus among scholars and clerics that the beloved Teacher called Christ Jesus of Nazareth died in his thirties, then proceeds to demolish that calcified yet mistaken teaching that he ministered on earth for three-and-a-half years! Bible interpreter and mathematician Ed Arceo will take you on a step by step journey to one particular and compelling calendar day, meanwhile cogitating with his reader on today’s growing negativity towards the idea of the winter birth of virgin Miriam's infant son, and asks whether such skepticism is justified by the evidence available from Scripture, archeology, and mathematics.
Is ecclesiastical tradition for a Friday death and Sunday resurrection consistent with the facts and figures of Bible and secular history, or is the more demonstrable position really that of the sectarians', who favor a Wednesday crucifixion for the founder of the faith of billions. Or indeed, could the Passion have been on a Thursday and the Resurrection on a Monday as some in the outskirts of mainstream Christianity would like? Which better satisfies Messiah’s own “three days and three nights” comment?
The findings in this book will both shock and instruct, intrigue yet edify: all through page after electrifying page of information you yourself can check out from your own Bible. These and more await both the curious and the more resolute of truth-seekers. This well-researched book will show you a picture of the Savior in a whole new light, fitted together masterfully from bushels of Old and New Testament clues that have been staring Christians in the face for ages. See how threads of answers your priest and pastor will not dare make from the Sunday pulpit weave together to form a veritable canvas upon which a grander portrait of Yahweh’s Son emerges. And all these spring from that one epic discovery born from the author’s years of investigation: the precise date of the Savior's birth!
The true date of the Nativity has proven to be the penultimate key, as it were, to every other question ever asked about Messiah’s place in the chronological record. At what age did he really begin his mission, was baptized, and was put to death? In what years? Could half of what we know of the Root and Offspring of David be in total error?
More than these, Ed Arceo's writings will put The Anointed One’s work in its proper context in relation to the larger dealings of Yahweh with rebellious Israel and the subsequent rise of the ekklesia of the Gentiles. On top of it all, discover why The Anointed One's advent, passion, death, resurrection, and enthronement were all according to a precise calendrico-mathematical design, each one coming right on time.
Whether from the King James or Douay-Rheims, unearth the evidence with hundreds of others who have already sighed in disbelief for not having known better what familiar Bible passages have been trying to convey. This is first-class textual-hermeneutical detective work nowhere else seen in a long time!
Along the way, learn what photo of the very same popular object the Magi saw in ancient Mesopotamian skies has been appearing for years in your dear old high school science textbook! Discover why no human record survives today of the most massive war in history in 36 CE, involving an army of fifteen million, or how one helpless Roman infant signaled the end of the Israelite nation in 40 CE.
There is more. There is so much more. Come and see for yourself.

Astrotheology and the Truth about “Jesus Christ”
as Found in the New Testament
By Rev. Craig Lyons Ms.D., D.D., M.Div.
I provide the reader and avid student in our first article on this Website how he might come to understand that there are 4 different areas of study that one must master if he is ever hope to come to a proper understanding and interpretation of "the Christ" of the New Testament. Since the Reformation the Bible has been put back into the hands of the people, and the question that has risen among many students of the Bible is whether or not the Scriptures should always be taken literally. As is the case most Christians and believers in "the Christ" grow up from childhood being taught a "literal-historical" understanding of the "Jesus Story" which we find in the New Testament never knowing that archeology has proved today that the earliest believers in "the Christ" never understood "Jesus Christ" as a just one human being but rather understood the Divine Concept of "Jesus Christ" not in a literal manner but in an "allegorical" manner. Yes, we are today literal in every sense of the word when we first approach the New Testament but if we study hard and gather needed knowledge about the times and the people who generated these Ancient Divine Concepts we find that beneath what we have assumed was a "literal" and "Historical Jesus Christ" are but allegories, figurations, and symbolisms of the Sun, Stars, and Constellations and their path in the Heavens. On the surface this is hard for the normative Christian to hear let alone contemplate as even remotely possible. We have all grown up hearing from Christian teachers and pastors the basic rule for a literal interpretation of the Scriptures:
"When the plain sense of Scripture makes sense, seek no other sense."
But unknown to these preachers and teachers of old from which we received our "traditions" is the now discovered facts of modern scholarship that expose this axiom of New Testament "Literal" interpretation as totally false since behind the "Jesus Story" in the New Testament we find that those who gave us these Divine Concepts down through history were people called "Gnostics" and they interpreted and wrote allegorically and not literally in the times that they lived. History and archeology has shown us that there existed both Jewish and non-Jewish Gnostics as believers in "the Christ" long before Rome replaced the "allegorical interpretation" of "the Christ" with a "literal interpretation" of "the Christ". If one for whatever reason begins a serious study of the Christian Faith and its origin along with its Jewish Roots then he quickly finds over time that behind the "Jesus Story" which we have assumed was a historical account of a real person in the first century is multiple allegories for what would be innocently the oldest and most important story humans ever knew or wrote down; namely, that being the annual passage of the Sun through of the seasons of the year (the Equinoxes and Solstices) as interpreted through the Ancient's understanding of the path of the Sun, stars, and constellations in the Heavens which influenced these very seasons of the year. The Ancient Priests and magi made up stories which were allegories based on what they "literally" saw occur in the Heavens. Later on, with the passage of much time, these stories took on a life of their own, as the stories were passed down from generation to generation but the knowledge of what the stories originally represented was lost. People started believing their "inherited" stories were real and actual history of events that actually really happened in the past, when originally the stories were nothing more than allegories for what people saw happening in the Heavens with the Sun and the Stars. The bottom line to all of this is that when one begins to study comparative religion one finds to his amazement that the basic plot of the "Jesus Story", including his life, ministry, and motif of a crucified and resurrected savior after 3 days being dead already existed in many other Aryan religions thousands of years prior to the alleged time of the supposed "New Testament Jesus". The "Jesus Story" is the oldest story recorded in the annals of mankind going back to Ancient predynastic Egypt and beyond. One only has to read books by Jackson and G. Massey to see this for themselves. This explains why there is not a shred of legitimate historical evidence or any unforged evidence anywhere known today that exits anywhere outside of this one Roman New Testament the validates that the "Jesus Story" originated as a biography of a literal-historical man named "Jesus of Nazareth". In fact there exists to the contrary a mountain of evidence that the New Testament's account of "Jesus Christ" is not to be interpreted or understood in a "Literal-Historical" setting as we have been taught.

The Michael Walzer Affair
A Scandal at Belgrade University
By Aleksandar Jokic and Milan Brdar

Book Excerpt
Introduction
The just war theory made its unlikely comeback in large part due to Michael Walzer's popularizing efforts. One of its most remarkable achievements was its application in the form of "humanitarian intervention" to absolve the US-led NATO aggression against Yugoslavia in 1999. Yet on June 17, 2010, Walzer -- a proponent not only of NATO bombings against then-Yugoslavia, but also of the military invasion by land troops -- was decorated with an honorary doctorate from Belgrade University. The ceremony took place not far from the remains of buildings destroyed by NATO in the center of the city. One may, then, rightly contemplate the meaning of gestures of this sort: What could tempt people, particularly the intellectual elites, to even consider honoring those who advocate aggression against their own country? Why honor someone hailing from a hegemonic power in a weak state that witnessed and directly felt the fury of that power, which left behind thousands dead and the whole country in physical, psychological, and economic devastation? These are complicated questions to answer fully, hence in this article we propose to shed some light on the sequence of events involving deception, inaction, and indifference that led to Michael Walzer becoming the most implausible laureate of an honoris causa, which in the end was not revoked despite nearly universal realization among the Serbian academic community of what had happened and despite continued public demands that the honorary doctorate be rescinded.
A Brief Chronology of the Scandal
On June 12, 2010, we first learned from the media that an ILECS (International Law and Ethics Conference Series) conference would take place on the topic of "Asymmetric Wars, International Relations, and Just War Theory" in the Festival Hall of the Rectorate of Belgrade University on June 17-19, and that 14 foreign presenters were to participate, while a single scholar from our University had been invited. Of particular interest to the academic public are the following two details: first, three participants at the conference had advocated the bombing of Serbia in 1999 (Michael Walzer, David Luban, and Igor Primorac), and second, Michael Walzer was unveiled as a key guest who was to be awarded a doctorate honoris causa of Belgrade University.
Following this announcement in the press, we critically examined the conference and opposed the idea of awarding an honorary doctorate to Michael Walzer on the Atlantis radio show, broadcast by Radio Beograd.
Further to our remarks to the media, we drafted a Protest against the participation at the conference of people who had advocated the bombing of Serbia as well as the decision to award Michael Walzer an honorary doctorate. Our Protest was published on June 15th in the daily Pravda. Walzer was, in the end, and as planned, awarded an honorary doctorate from Belgrade University -- a decision he himself stated had surprised him, presumably given his publicly-held positions supporting the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, as well as his support for the secession of Kosovo-Metohija -- and following this event, we sent a demand to the Rector of Belgrade University, Professor Branko Kovacevic, to submit his resignation as a result.
On the same day in the weekly Pecat, apropos the conference on "Asymmetric Wars" and the honorary doctorate given to Michael Walzer, we published a critical text titled "Downfall by Philosophy," in which we showed the moral and academic collapse of the administration of Belgrade University for having awarded an honorary doctorate to a person who advocated the bombing and ground invasion against Serbia.

Cameron's ‘Big Society’ needs Christian values
Behind it, says Blond
David Cameron’s “Big Society” dream will fail unless the country rediscovers traditionally Christian values, according to the academic credited with helping develop the concept.
Phillip Blond, a think-tank director known as the Prime Minister’s philosopher-king, will say in a speech today that the individualism fostered by the state and markets in recent decades has damaged society.
He will claim that this decline in “social capital” and the “disintegration” of relationships has reduced support for the country’s most vulnerable people.
In order for Mr. Cameron’s idea of a “Big Society” to succeed, with citizens taking back power from the state to volunteer or run co-operative organisations, Mr. Blond believes that people will need to become less selfish.
He will tell the Beyond Individualism conference organised by Christian Concern: “Liberal individualism has led to a massive concentration of wealth and the disintegration of family relationships and human association: this reduction in 'social capital' has decreased well-being, health, trust and support for the most vulnerable.
“We need to displace this narrative with a larger and far more successful story - a fact that has perhaps not yet been fully grasped by those tasked with implementing the Big Society project.
"Moral markets, and a return to civic association, require Christian values: mutuality, subsidiarity, reciprocity, solidarity, mediation - both in the theological and institutional sense.”
Mr Blond, known as the “Red Tory” for his support of “communitarian civic conservatism”, will also claim that multi-culturalism has “eradicated difference” in Britain in the name of equality while democracy has failed to give a voice for the many.

NWO Plans Exposed By Insider In 1969
'This is a transcript of two out of three tapes on the "New World System." Tapes one and two were recorded in 1988 and are the recollections of Dr. Lawrence Dunegan regarding a lecture he attended on March 20, 1969 at a meeting of the Pittsburgh Paediatric Society. The lecturer at that gathering of paediatricians (identified in tape three recorded in 1991) was a Dr. Richard Day (who died in 1989). At the time, Dr. Day was Professor of Paediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York. Previously he had served as Medical Director of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Dr. Dunegan was formerly a student of Dr. Day at the University of Pittsburgh and was well acquainted with him, though not intimately. He describes Dr. Day as an insider of the "Order" and although Dr. Dunegan's memory was somewhat dimmed by the intervening years, he is able to provide enough details of the lecture to enable any enlightened person to discern the real purposes behind the trends of our time. This is a transcript of a loose, conversational monologue that makes for better listening than reading.'

Parmenides and Zeno
Heraclitus maintained that everything changes, and since philosophers love to argue, it is perhaps unsurprising that someone stated the exact opposite, namely that nothing ever changes. This view was put forward by Parmenides, son of Pyres who came from Elea, a Greek foundation in southern Italy.
The chronicle describes Parmenides as a nobleman
who once established a new law for Elea, which became so popular that all new officials of the city had to swear they will abide by the Parmenidean law before they were inaugurated. Parmenides is also known for the philosophical school he established in his city, the Eleatic school. It is further said that Parmenides and his main disciple, Zeno, once came to Athens for the festival of the Great Panathenaea where they had an encounter with the young Socrates. Although the narrative is uncertain, there is no doubt that Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were strongly inspired by the Eleatic school.
Parmenides stated that the senses deceive us and, hence, our perception of the world does not reflect the world as it really is. Instead, the real world is something above our apprehension and can only be apprehended through logic. His chief doctrine is that the only true being is "the One" which is indivisible and infinite in time and space. But "the One" is not conceived by Parmenides as we conceive God, neither is it reminiscent of the Hindu "Brahman". Instead he thinks of it as a material being with infinite extension, which he concludes from logical reasoning.
He argues that the perception of movement and change is an illusion and says that everything that is, has always been and will ever be, since it can always be thought and spoken of. The essence of this argument is: If you speak or think of something, the word or thought relates to something that actually exists, that is both thought and language require objects outside themselves, otherwise they would be inconceivable. Parmenides assumes a constant meaning of words and concludes from there that everything always exists and that there is no change, for everything can be thought of at all times.
In fact, he did not express his ideas so straightforwardly. His writings are in awkward hexameters, its contents intermixed with unfathomable symbolism, as in the following example: "The mares that carry me as far as my heart may aspire were my escorts; they had guided me and set me on the celebrated road [...] Only one road, one story is left: that it is. And on this there are signs in plenty, that, being it is unborn and indestructible, whole of one kind and unwavering, and complete. Nor was it, nor will it be, since now it is, all together, one, continuous. [...] That it came from what is not I shall not allow you to say or think - for it is not sayable or thinkable that it is not." (Simplicius, Commentary on the Physics, 144.25)
Melissus, an eminent citizen of Samos and admirer of Parmenides produced a book approximately 50 years later, rendering Parmenides' doctrines in clearer prose. In the following excerpt he explains the canon of infinity and perpetuity of the One: "Since what comes into existence has a beginning, what does not come into existence has no beginning. But what exists has not come into being. [which was deducted before in the text] Therefore it has not got a beginning.
Again, what is destroyed has an end, and if something is indestructible it has no end. Therefore what exists, being indestructible, has no end. But what has neither beginning nor end is in fact infinite. Therefore what exists is infinite. If something is infinite, it is unique. For if there were two things they could not be infinite but would have limits against one another. But what exists is infinite. Therefore there is not a plurality of existents. Therefore what exists is one." (Simplicius, Commentary on the Physics, 103.13)
The above states the gist of classical monism. It is obvious that Parmenides is wrong, although his deductions are logically correct. The problem lies in the axiom; he assumes that the intelligible word and the things themselves have a common form of existence. Parmenides attempted to build his metaphysics on basis of the logical conclusions derived from this axiom. Although the resulting theory is erroneous, his methodology was a genuine innovation.
Parmenides profoundly influenced later philosophers with this method and possibly supplied the spark for Plato's theory of ideas. Since Eleatic philosophy grossly contradicts common sense, it is unsurprising that his teachings brought forth critical challenge and ridicule among his contemporaries. It was Parmenides' brightest disciple, Zeno (some say he was his lover, too), who became the chief defender of his master's position. Again, the methodology is conclusive argument.
Zeno followed his master's advice to disarm his adversaries by leading their argument ad absurdum and thus became famous for his paradoxes. That the senses give us no clue to reality but only to appearance was proved by Zeno in the following manner (Zeno speaks to Protagoras, the sophist): "'Tell me, Protagoras,' he said, 'does one millet-seed - or the ten-thousandth part of a millet-seed make a sound when it falls or not?' Protagoras said that it did not. 'But,' he said, 'does a bushel of millet-seed make a sound when it falls or not?'
When he replied that a bushel does make a sound, Zeno said: 'Well, then, isn't there a ratio between the bushel of a millet-seed and the single seed - or the ten-thousandth part of a single seed?' He agreed. 'Well, then,' said Zeno, 'will there not be similar ratios between the sounds? For as the sounders so are the sounds. And if that is the case, then if the bushel of millet-seed makes a sound, the single seed and the ten-thousandth part of a single seed will also make a sound.' That was Zeno's argument." (Simplicius, Commentary on Physics, 1108.14-28)
To evince that motion and change is an illusion, Zeno presented the following paradoxes:
1. The Racecourse. Imagine a racecourse of a given length, say 100m. The runner starts at the beginning of the racecourse and reaches the goal in a given time. In this example of motion, the runner traverses a series of units of distance, foot perhaps. Zeno holds, that each unit of distances can be divided into smaller distances, 1/2 foot, 1/4 foot, 1/8 foot and so on, until at last we have an infinite number of distances. How can the runner traverse an infinite number of distances in a finite amount of time?
2. Achilles and the Tortoise. The swift Achilles and the tortoise hold a race contest. Because Achilles is a sportsman, he gives the tortoise a head start. While the tortoise is already moving towards the goal, Achilles starts and pursues the tortoise. In a few seconds he reaches exactly the point, where the tortoise has been when Achilles started. However, during this time the tortoise has moved forward and it takes Achilles a certain amount of time to make up for this distance. Again, the tortoise has moved on in that time and Achilles needs another, smaller amount of time to make up for it. The distance between Achilles and the tortoise will always be divisible and, as in the case of the racecourse, no point can be reached before the previous point has been reached, thus Achilles can never overtake the tortoise.
3. The Arrow. Does the arrow move when the archer shoots it at the target? If there is a reality of space, the arrow must at all times occupy a particular position in space on its way to the target. But for an arrow to occupy a position in space that is equal to its length is precisely what is meant when one says that the arrow is at rest. Since the arrow must always occupy such a position on its trajectory which is equal to its length, the arrow must be always at rest. Therefore motion is an illusion.
There are more of Zeno's paradoxes; almost all involve dichotomy and the mathematical problem of infinity. Although these paradoxes are confusing, it is quite evident to us that the conclusions derived from them are nonsensical. Yet, this was not obvious to Zeno's contemporaries. In the early beginnings of philosophy, these logical pitfalls presented a major obstacle to progressive thought, and Parmenides maintained a significant influence on Greek thought for some time.
The paradoxes illustrate the sort of problems we encounter in language and logic. Zeno's arguments are fallacious and may be refuted, once the correct premises are applied, yet the correct premises are less than obvious. Therefore, Parmenides and Zeno can be credited with having demonstrated, contrary to their intention, that logic alone is no sure-fire way to attain meaningful knowledge. They have instead shown that the opposite is occasionally true and that we must beware of logical pitfalls. Philosophical reasoning is only as sound as the premises it rests on.

The Rise and Fall of Bitcoin
By Benjamin Wallace for Wired Magazine (December, 2011)
In November 1, 2008, a man named Satoshi Nakamoto posted a research paper to an obscure cryptography listserv describing his design for a new digital currency that he called bitcoin. None of the list’s veterans had heard of him, and what little information could be gleaned was murky and contradictory. In an online profile, he said he lived in Japan. His email address was from a free German service. Google searches for his name turned up no relevant information; it was clearly a pseudonym. But while Nakamoto himself may have been a puzzle, his creation cracked a problem that had stumped cryptographers for decades. The idea of digital money—convenient and untraceable, liberated from the oversight of governments and banks—had been a hot topic since the birth of the Internet. Cypherpunks, the 1990s movement of libertarian cryptographers, dedicated themselves to the project. Yet every effort to create virtual cash had foundered. Ecash, an anonymous system launched in the early 1990s by cryptographer David Chaum, failed in part because it depended on the existing infrastructures of government and credit card companies. Other proposals followed—bit gold, RPOW, b-money—but none got off the ground.
One of the core challenges of designing a digital currency involves something called the double-spending problem. If a digital dollar is just information, free from the corporeal strictures of paper and metal, what’s to prevent people from copying and pasting it as easily as a chunk of text, “spending” it as many times as they want? The conventional answer involved using a central clearinghouse to keep a real-time ledger of all transactions—ensuring that, if someone spends his last digital dollar, he can’t then spend it again. The ledger prevents fraud, but it also requires a trusted third party to administer it.
Bitcoin did away with the third party by publicly distributing the ledger, what Nakamoto called the “block chain.” Users willing to devote CPU power to running a special piece of software would be called miners and would form a network to maintain the block chain collectively. In the process, they would also generate new currency. Transactions would be broadcast to the network, and computers running the software would compete to solve irreversible cryptographic puzzles that contain data from several transactions. The first miner to solve each puzzle would be awarded 50 new bitcoins, and the associated block of transactions would be added to the chain. The difficulty of each puzzle would increase as the number of miners increased, which would keep production to one block of transactions roughly every 10 minutes. In addition, the size of each block bounty would halve every 210,000 blocks—first from 50 bitcoins to 25, then from 25 to 12.5, and so on. Around the year 2140, the currency would reach its preordained limit of 21 million bitcoins.
When Nakamoto’s paper came out in 2008, trust in the ability of governments and banks to manage the economy and the money supply was at its nadir.
