FLIBBERTIGIBBET
ˈflɪbətɪˈdʒɪbɪt/
It means a frivolous,
flighty, or excessively talkative person. It’s a fine word to throw out, in the
appropriate circumstances, though there’s a risk of tripping over all those
syllables. That’s no doubt why it has had so many spellings.
The original seems to
have been recorded about 1450 as fleper-gebet, which may have been just an
imitation of the sound of meaningless speech (babble and yadda-yadda-yadda have
similar origins). It started out to mean a gossip or chattering person, but
quickly seems to have taken on the idea of a flighty or frivolous woman. A century
later it had become respectable enough for Bishop Latimer to use it in a sermon
before King Edward VI, though he wrote it as flybbergybe.
The modern spelling
is due to Shakespeare, who borrowed it from one of the 40 fiends listed in a
book by Samuel Harsnet in 1603. In King Lear Edgar uses it for a demon or imp:
“This is the foul fiend Flibbertigibbet. .. He gives the web and the pin,
squints the eye, and makes the harelip; mildews the white wheat, and hurts the
poor creature of earth”.
There has been yet a
third sense, taken from a character of Sir Walter Scott’s in Kenilworth, for a
mischievous and flighty small child. But despite Shakespeare and Scott, the
most usual sense is still the original one.
Wikipedia
Flibbertigibbet
is a Middle English word referring to a flighty or whimsical person, usually a
young woman. In modern use, it is used as a slang term, especially in
Yorkshire, for a gossipy or overly talkative person. Its origin is in a
meaningless representation of chattering. It does not always apply to females,
however; it has also been used to describe Jiminy Cricket due to his whimsical,
chatty nature.
This word also has a
historical use as a name for a fiend, devil or spirit. In Shakespeare's King Lear (IV, i (1605)), he is one of
the five fiends Edgar (in the posture of a beggar, Tom o' Bedlam) claimed was
possessing him. Shakespeare got the name from Samuel Harsnett's Declaration of Egregious Popish Impostures (1603),
where one reads of 40 fiends, which Jesuits cast out and among which was
Fliberdigibbet, described as one of "foure deuils of the round, or
Morrice, whom Sara in her fits, tuned together, in measure and sweet
cadence."
By extension it has
also been used as a synonym for Puck. Through its use as a nickname for a
character in Sir Walter Scott's Kenilworth, it has gained the meaning of an
impish child.
Flibbertigibbet
similarly features as a name in a local legend around Wayland's Smithy.
According to the tale, Flibbertigibbet was apprentice to Wayland the Smith, and
greatly exasperated his master. Eventually Wayland threw Flibbertigibbet down
the hill and into a valley, where he transformed into a stone. Scott associates
his Flibbertigibbet character in Kenilworth with Wayland Smith.
Another historical
connection and likely origin of the word comes from "fly by the
gibbet". A gibbet can refer to a platform or cage used to execute
criminals and display their remains outside a town to warn other would-be
criminals. The remains over time would be picked apart by small creatures and
birds and thus 'fly away'. "Fly by the Gibbet" may also have been
used as a sailing expression to refer to hoisting the gibbet sail. This is a
large sail that can be used when sailing with the direction of the wind to
capture as much wind as possible. A sail that has not been pulled tight will
flap in the wind, which may have also contributed to the association.
In the musical The Sound of Music, the nuns sing
"How do you solve a problem like Maria? How do you catch a cloud and pin
it down? How do you find a word that means Maria? A flibbertigibbet. A
will-o'-the-wisp. A clown."

They both served in the Continental
Congress.
One was elected the second President
and the other was elected the third.
Once political enemies, they became
close friends in later life.
An awe swept America when they both
died on the same day, JULY 4, 1826, exactly 50 years since they passed the
Declaration of Independence.
Their names were John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson.
In his Second Annual Message to
Congress, December 5, 1826, President John Quincy Adams referred to Jefferson
and Adams, stating:

underway for a book tour to the lower 48 beginning sometime in August. I'll
bring a short powerpoint presentation that will also be streamed from some of
the locations where I'm speaking. Before I leave we'll be having a local book
signing party in Anchorage, Alaska at the Tap Root in Spenard (the old
Whitekeys Fly By Night club!), probably on a Blues Monday. More details on that
will be posted here soon, along with a list of the radio shows I'm doing now.
I've got a reader who
owns the original spiral bound version down in Northwestern Montana who's
generously offered to set up the venues for that part of the state. My
tentative plan is to fly to Seattle and have a book party there and meet up
with a lot of old friends and initital contacts from 1999. I have a friend in
Tacoma who may be making the arrangements in King County. From the PNW I'll
head east on I-90, swing down to Walla Walla and back up to Spokane, Boise, and
then on to Montana and Wyoming. Depending on how it goes, I'll be adding new
destinations to my journey, but I'm certain I'd like to make it all the way to
NYC (with stops in WI, Ohio, Amherst, Long Island and Staten Island for sure!).
Best case scenario, I'll ride the train down the coast to Florida (where I've
never been) and across the south to California, after a long tour of Arkansas,
Oklahoma and Texas.
Documentary footage
of the journey is another part of the project. If you'd like to assist with
this endeavor, meet up with us for a day, or join the party and travel with us
for a while, please be sure to let me know. Looking forward to meeting as many
of my readers as is possible, some of you I feel like I've "known"

Our return to the
"fray" is also bringing the haters and the critics out of the
woodwork. I'm sure I may have to deal with them along the way too. Maybe I'll
find time to stop in DC and poke my head in at Etzioni's office, just to say
hello, and thanks for the memories!
So much has happened since we started
studying the plan in 1999, and there are a LOT more Americans who know
something about it now. I get emails all the time from regular people across
the states who have just begun speaking out against it in their municipal
councils and meetings. Two state legislatures passed Acts forbidding
implementation of Agenda 21 and sustainable development, and while those two
items are only the tip of the iceberg, it's a great start! ICLEI has also been
outlawed in over a hundred towns! America had a slow start, but it looks like
it has the potential to rise to a fast finish. In some places the local
governments still DENY that their local plan has anything to do with Local
Agenda 21, and the mainstream press is painting all opponents as right wing
wackos and conspiracy theorists. These defamation of character pieces breezily
ignore the Democrats Against UN Agenda 21, and so many others like us who do
not fit their right v left dialectical con. It's "the healthy instincts of the plain
man" that's their biggest threat right now.
The updates on the
outcome of Rio+20 are claiming it was a big failure. Haven't found anything new
on the proposed Rights of Mother Earth, but I did get quite a few hits from
Brazil last week on the Pachamama article.
I'm going to sublet
my gertees month-to-month while I'm gone, so if you've ever had the desire to
live in a rustic but cute yurt setup in Alaska, here's your opportunity. The 3
gertees connected to each other ten miles north of Wasilla are perfect for a
single or a couple, but the RV park is also kid friendly. Have to haul water

metaphor)
1. Metaphrand means
"the thing you are trying to describe".
2. It's the conclusion
that results from serious thinking; the foreseeable ramifications your
conclusion will produce; and, an assessment of the actual worth of your
conclusion using your critical thinking skills.
3. Specifically, it's
the seat of your soul, but with one important characteristic: it has been
cleansed of fantastic mythological beliefs and refilled with double-checked,
verifiable and footnoted facts.
4. Every living thing
has a metaphrand, to the best of its ability. Each animal, each human, each family, neighborhood,
nation, planet, and each universe also has a metaphrand. It is its actual
consciousness quotient (and humans see only a small portion of the spectrum of
consciousness). None of these metaphrands has yet to be activated.
5. A metaphrand is the
unknown purpose every living thing tries to grasp. (Humans believe that they are the
only species of life to attempt this; other species vehemently disagree.)
6. It is the result of
applying a metaphier, or descriptor, to a metaphor used to describe some event
or process. E.g., as the metaphor 'snow blankets the ground' conveys an image
of warmth in a cold weather report, which creates an analytical area of
reflection in your brain in which you can coolly assess the facts at hand.
7. A metaphrand is a
place where you store your dreams, for easy retrieval when needed.

You are the physical
and mental representation of the scars you have collected throughout your life,
divided by the number of times you made other people laugh in relief that they
were not being threatened.
You are the
collection of all your hopes and dreams focused on a future of happiness and
contentment; but as well, you are a tortured soul who may not rely on the intent
of others to reach the attitude of clear-sighted peace.
Two personalities,
two brain hemispheres, connected only by your own judgment as to what is right
or wrong.
These judgments are
all your own, but have been fed into your mind by people you will never meet
possessed of motives you will never comprehend. Once, we thought it was
reasonable to assume their motives were just like ours — now we know clearly
that they are not.
One need only survey
the poisoned products we rely upon — or are addicted to — for our health to
realize how semiconsciously stupid we have been to ingest the things we have
over the years. The population in general is slowly dying off from a steady
diet of Cokes and smokes, a process now accelerated by all manner of unrealized
pharmaceutical threats to our lives.
The Club of Rome
pronouncement in 1972 recommending the disappearance of five-sixths of the
planet's population was just another Jewish mass murder scheme, because our
bounteous planet could sustain a much larger population than it has now if
everyone were living a meaningfully indigenous way.
The American people
in the second decade of the 21st century are like so many deer in the
headlights, frozen in fear at what the karma of their oblivious behavior is
about to bring down upon their heads. And totally unable to devise an antidote
to their own imminent demise, trapped as they are in the deranged constraints
of their own belief systems.

Thirty million
thunderbolts per day juvenate the Earth and everything in it. So too do
microscopic sparks of crystal filament leap across the Fissure of Rolando in
our brains connecting the carpenter's knowledge of our right hemispheres to the
dreamscapes of the left.
When consciousnesses
collide in the real world, sparks fly. But whether it's a sizzle or a zap
depends entirely on the condition of your own battery, as a spark freely
offered usually earns a spark coming back. And that's the way the Universe
works.
My hobby is hammering
holy men over the head with the very books they say are sacred. Neither are
holding up well. All they can do is lie, cheat and steal and pay the
politicians so they won't get caught.
It hit me not too
long ago how presumptuous it was for anyone to ever insist that he knew what
the entity called God actually said verbatim in his own language. What a
disgrace! To claim to know what the maker of all things with a process that we
can never fully comprehend . . . to merely attempt to do so is where we are
now, a failed species poisoning itself because we have convinced ourselves that
feeling good is all that counts, no matter how many lies we have to tell
ourselves.
And right there is
the nub of the problem. For you to construct your life on the basis of rules
you have decided are sacrosanct without thoroughly checking the references that
have been used, according to rudimentary scholastic principles, is an
invitation to disaster. And earns you a failing grade for your life.
You have to figure it
out for yourself. Otherwise, you can't get there from here. Nobody gets out of
here alive. It's best to know why.
We know where we're
all going, and the sooner we realize it the better. Any plan based on the idea
that we're going to a grand hotel in the sky or, worse, coming back for another
attempt at sanity, is doomed to delusion and irrelevance, and worst of all,
doomed to uselessness to the very ideals we profess to love.
A false goal leads to a
false reality.
Rule 1: Make your
actions be your prayers. Real faith is based on no thing except your own
intent. It is powered, actually, by the genuine love you have for others.
The truth is free. It's
lies that cost money.
Once you've lost your
fear of death your demons disappear.
When you deny death,
you deny life, and kill everything around you.
Freedom from fear of
death is freedom from fear of life.

A draft government
report says we will alter human evolution within 20 years by combining what we
know of nanotechnology, biotechnology, IT and cognitive sciences. The 405-page
report sponsored by the US National Science Foundation and Commerce Department, Converging Technologies for
Improving Human Performance, calls for a broad-based research
program to improve human performance leading to telepathy, machine-to-human
communication, amplified personal sensory devices and enhanced intellectual
capacity. People may download their consciousnesses into computers or other
bodies even on the other side of the solar system, or participate in a giant
"hive mind", a network of intelligences connected through ultra-fast
communications networks. "With knowledge no longer
encapsulated in individuals, the distinction between individuals and the
entirety of humanity would blur," the report says. "Think Vulcan
mind-meld. We would perhaps become more of a hive mind - an enormous, single,
intelligent entity." Armies
may one day be fielded by machines that think for themselves while devices will
respond to soldiers' commands before their thoughts are fully formed, it says.
The report says the abilities are within our grasp but will require an intense
public-relations effort to "prepare key organisations and societal
activities for the changes made possible by converging technologies", and
to counter concern over "ethical, legal and moral" issues.

Activism
As the Occupy Wall Street movement swept across the country
in September, activist David Graeber became a public face for a resurgent
leftism based on radical, direct-action protest.
Graeber, 50,
describes himself as a “small-a anarchist,” meaning that he is interested in
promoting anarchist principles without binding himself to a specific school of
anarchist thought. Such principles have led the Occupy movement to early,
unexpected successes in occupations across the nation. Graeber is the son of
Jewish radicals, and his mother played a leading role in the famed musical
“Pins and Needles,” which was sponsored by the International Ladies Garment
Workers Union in 1937.
Beyond his early and
formative role in Occupy Wall Street (he claims to have coined the rallying
cry, “We are the 99%”), Graeber is also a noted anthropologist whose
ethnographic works on Madagascar and radical activism are renowned, if
controversial. This year, he published “Debt: The First 5,000 Years,” which
explores the history of debt in a way that challenges deeply held beliefs about
the nature of lending and money. For Graeber, the only way out of a society
crushed by its own debt is a modern jubilee year, a period of systematic debt
relief during which we wipe the slate clean. Though Occupy Wall Street has so
far refused to make any demands about debt, or any other issue, Graeber’s
impassioned call for a radical political renewal seems to have taken hold in
the movement he helped to start.

Oppositional defiant
disorder (ODD) is a
childhood mental disorder characterized by a
pattern of angry, antagonistic, hostile, negative,
irritable,
and/or vindictivebehavior
lasting at least six months and occurring more frequently than is
typically observed for the child's age and developmental stage. Children
diagnosed with ODD do not meet the clinical diagnostic criteria for conduct
disorder.
Description
Oppositional defiant
disorder (ODD),
a relatively new clinical classification, involves an ongoing pattern of
antagonistic,
defiant, and hostile behavior
toward parents and other authority figures. Children and
adolescents with ODD often have frequent temper tantrums, blame others for their misbehavior,
argue excessively with adults, actively refuse to comply with adult rules and requests,
deliberately defy adults and attempt to
annoy or upset them, and are easily annoyed
by others.
Demographics
Before puberty, ODD is more
common in boys than girls; however, after puberty ODD occurrence rates are about
equal in boys and girls. The disorder typically begins by the
age of eight. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry, approximately 5 to 15 percent of all school-aged children have
ODD.
Causes and Symptoms
Although the specific causes of ODD
are unknown, genetics and environment are thought to play a role in its
development. As of 2004 several theories about the causes of oppositional
defiant disorder
are being investigated. ODD may be related to the
following:
- the child's temperament and the family's response to that temperament
- an inherited predispositionto the disorder in certain families
- a neurological cause, such as a head injury
- a chemical imbalance in the brain (especially with the brain chemical serotonin)
ODD appears to be more common
in families in which at least one parent has a history of a mood disorder,
conduct
disorder, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), antisocial
personality disorder, or a
substance abuse-related disorder. Children with one
parent who
is alcoholic or who has been in trouble with the law are almost three
times more likely to have ODD. Additionally, some studies suggest that mothers
with a depressive disorder are more likely to
have children that develop ODD. ODD can also occur in conjunction with other
conditions such as ADHD, learning disabilities, anxietydisorders, and mood disorders. About 50
percent to 65 percent of children with ADHD also have ODD.
Symptoms of ODD include a pattern of
negative, hostile, and defiant behavior lasting
at least six months. During this time four or more of the
following must be present for a child to be diagnosed with
ODD:
- often loses his/her temper
- often argues with adults
- often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules
- often deliberately annoys people
- often blames others for his/her mistakes or misbehavior
- is often touchy or easily annoyed by others
- is often angry and resentful
- is often spiteful or vindictive
- misbehaves frequently
- swears or uses obscene language
- has a low opinion of him/herself
Additional problems may be present,
including the following:
- learning problems
- a depressed mood
- hyperactivity (although ADHD must be ruled out)
- substance abuse or dependence
- dramatic and erratic behavior
When to Call the Doctor
Parents of children and adolescents who
exhibit symptoms of ODD should see a physician as
soon as possible. Usually, a referral to a psychologist, psychiatrist, or
therapist will be given.
Diagnosis
ODD is diagnosed by psychological and
psychiatric evaluations; interviews with family members, teachers, and caregivers; and
observation and interviews with the child or adolescent. Diagnosis is based on
clinical criteria defined in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth
edition, text revision C (DSM-IV-TR).
ODD often has characteristics in
common with other psychological disorders and often occurs in
conjunction with other conditions, such as ADHD or mood
disorders. Therefore, diagnosis of ODD usually depends on
exclusion of other disorders. A diagnosis of
ODD is
not made if the symptoms occur exclusively in psychoticor mood disorders,
or if the child meets clinical criteria for conduct
disorder, or, if the adolescent is 18 years old or older and meets
clinical criteria for antisocial
personality disorder. Children and
adolescents with ODD do not exhibit the more serious aggressive behaviors or
physical crueltythat is common
in other disorders.
Treatment
Treatment of ODD usually involves
medication, and group, individual, and/or family therapy. Of
these, individual therapy is the most common. The goal of
therapy is
to help provide a consistent daily schedule, support,
rules, discipline, and limits, as
well as to help train patients to get along with others by modifying behaviors.
Therapy can occur in residential or day treatment facilities, in a medical
setting, or on an outpatientbasis. Therapy
can instruct patients on how to effectively deal with ODD and help them learn
how to do the following:
- use self time-outs
- identify what increases anxiety
- talk about feelings instead of acting on them
- find and use ways to calm themselves
- frequently remind themselves of their goals
- get involved in tasks and physical activities that provide a healthy outlet for energy
- learn how to talk with others
- develop a predictable, consistent, daily schedule of activity
- develop ways to obtain pleasure and feel good
- learn how to get along with other people
- find ways to limit stimulation
- learn to admit mistakes in a matter-of-fact way
Therapy can also involve the parents.
Parent management training focuses on teaching parents specific and more
effective techniques for handling the child's opposition and defiance. Research has shown that
parent management training is more effective than family
therapy.
Stimulant medication is used
only when ODD cooccurs with ADHD. Occasionally, children and adolescents with
ODD may also have depression or anxiety
disorders, and treatment with antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications
can help alleviate some symptoms of
ODD.
Prognosis
The prognosis for ODD
varies. In some children, ODD evolves into a conduct disorder
or a mood disorder. ODD, if left untreated, has approximately an 80
percent chance of turning into conduct disorder as a child ages. Later in
life, ODD can develop into passive-aggressive personality disorder
or antisocialpersonality disorder.
ODD can cause significant social, academic, and/or occupational impairment. Generally, with treatment and
long-term participation in therapy, adjustment in social settings and in the workplace can be made in adulthood.
Prevention
As of 2004, ODD could not be
prevented.
Parental Concerns
Children and adolescents with ODD usually
have difficulties in school and at home. In some cases, ODD can result in
expulsion from school. Parents should investigate alternative
schoolsettings that may be able to provide counseling and group
therapy integrated with academics. Assistance is
available through county social or mental health services, educational
consultants, and local school counselors. Family therapy may help alleviate
stressful family situations and help other family members understand the
disorder.
Television viewing and video/computer
games can contribute to ODD behaviors. For children with ADHD or ODD, the
American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limiting use of television and
video/computer games to no more than two hours per day, monitoring children's
use of television and computers, and viewing
family-oriented television programs with their
children.
Parents may find it helpful to track their
child's moods and behaviors and to help children learn to track their own moods
and behaviors to help identify possible stresses and causative factors.
Parents should actively participate
in their child's therapy and learn positive parenting techniques that can help
ODD behaviors. When parents are too restrictive, children and adolescents with
ODD can rebel, and power struggles can frequently occur. Therapists
specializing in ODD can help families become more effective in handling ODD
behaviors in order to avoid such rebellion. The American Academy of Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry recommends the following for parents with children who
have ODD:
- Choose battles by setting priorities regarding child's behavior.
- Set reasonable, age-appropriate limits with consistently enforceable consequences.
- Work with teachers, coaches, and other family members for support in dealing with the child with ODD.
- Use positive reinforcement praise when the child displays desired behaviors.
- Take time to manage stress by exercising and/or relaxing away from the child.

The following
translation was performed free of charge to protest an injustice: the
destruction by the ADL of Ariel Toaff’s BLOOD PASSOVER on Jewish ritual murder.
The author is the son of the Chief Rabbi of Rome, and a professor of Jewish
Renaissance and Medieval History at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, just outside
Tel Aviv.
Dr. Toaff is uniquely
qualified to write this book, being thoroughly familiar with the derivative
literature in English, French, German and Italian, as well as the original
documentary sources in Latin, Medieval Italian, Hebrew and Yiddish. This is not
something he worked on in secret. On the contrary, he worked on it openly with
his university students and colleagues in Israel for several years; one of his
students was even going to publish a paper on the subject. The author is extremely
careful about what he says, and his conclusions must be taken seriously. It
reads like a detective story.
If it had been
published in Israel, in Hebrew, no one would have cared. There are large bodies
of literature in Hebrew that Jews do not wish Gentiles to know about. But Dr.
Toaff’s announcement of its publication in Italy, in Italian, raised a
worldwide firestorm of fury. Under unbearable pressure, the book was withdrawn
from publication, and is not to be re-issued.
You can strike a blow

Facebook founder Mark
Zuckerberg has joined the ranks of America’s celebrity philanthropists by
agreeing to give most of his multi-billion dollar fortune away to charity.
According to Forbes, the 26-year-old’s fortune is worth $6.9 billion.
Mr. Zuckerberg, along
with junk bond pioneer Michael Milken and AOL co-founder Steve Case, are among
17of the U.S. richest people who have signed the Giving Pledge,
a promissory group founded by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates which seeks to get
billionaires to publicly pledge large chunks of their fortunes to charity and
not their heirs.
Dustin Moskovitz, a
co-founder of Facebook and former Harvard roommate of Mr. Zuckerberg’s, has
also signed the pledge. According to Forbes, Mr. Moskovitz, who is also 26, has
a fortune of about $1.4 billion.
In a release on the
Pledge’s website, Zuckerberg explained why, among other things, he pledged $100
million to the Newark, N.J., public school system earlier this year. “People
wait until late in their career to give back. But why wait when there is so
much to be done?” Zuckerberg said.
“With a generation of
younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a
big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the
impact of our philanthropic efforts,” he added.
Mr. Zuckerberg owns
about a quarter of Facebook, which he set up while at Harvard University in
2003. Much of his wealth depends on the endurance of the social networking
site’s value.
His decision to sign
the pledge comes three months after he announced he would be donating $100
million to the beleaguered public school system in Newark, New Jersey.
AOL co-founder Steve
Case and his wife Jean said they signed the pledge because they hoped it would
help philanthropists learn from each other. “It is less about what size of a
check that you write and more about the outcome,” Mr. Case said.
Ms. Case said
Internet entrepreneurs have a unique interest in philanthropy. “The folks that
helped bring AOL to life were out to change the world,” she said. “It seems a
natural thing that as they look at the role they want to play, they are giving
back in big ways.”
The Wall Street
Journal reports that the Giving Pledge comes in part from Buffett’s belief that
heirs waste money, an idea he gained from steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie’s book
“The Gospel of Wealth.”
Starting last year,
Bill Gates with wife Melinda, and Warren Buffett Buffett and other wealthy
individuals hosted a series of dinners for billionaires to discuss setting up
the pledge, the journal reports. That led to an announcement in June of the
pledge and its earliest signers.

Other members of the
pledge include Oracle Corp. founder Larry Ellison, film director George Lucas,
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, investor Carl Icahn and former junk-bond king
Michael Milken.
The Journal also
reports that after the initial Giving Pledge list came out, some critics
decried it as a public-relations stunt, or the product of tax-breaks that are
hurting the government’s ability to offer critical services.
However, the group’s
real reason for the public pronouncements of the Pledge is the idea that giving
is contagious, said Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton
University, in the press release.
“Research shows that
when people know that others are giving, they are themselves more likely to
give. So publicly pledging to give will encourage others to give,” Peter Singer
said.
He continued: “This
holds true for billionaires and for those of us who aren’t anywhere near that
level of wealth. We can all make a difference, and play our part in making the
world a better place.”
Overall,
philanthropic giving has been hit hard by the weak economy. Donations in the
U.S. fell 3.6% to $303.75 billion last year, down from $315 billion in 2008,

Ok, so some of you
may have read that Google x labs made a computer, unleashed it on the Internet
fed it millions of images and the computer on its own, made a "semantic
category" for cats. It recognized the similar pictures and can now
differentiate cats from other images.
So my question is
this: If an AI system creates labels to define its world the way humans do,
wouldn’t it fall into the same stereotypes and presumptuous thoughts that
plague mankind?
Granted an AI may
eventually have more processing power than a man and make predictions more
accurately, but perceiving reality is always a gamble. Nothing is ever 100%
right?
It’s thinking of this
that I for the first time became afraid of singularity type futures, whereas
before I always assumed (incorrectly) that a computer would no have
misconceptions, and therefore never be dangerous.
This also brings to
light the accuracy of certain stereo types and how certain behaviors may seem
wrong yet be legitimate safety mechanisms. Judging an individual based on a
group is morally wrong but logically right. How can we teach a computer that?
Sorry I got off topic
a little. What does it mean for us that a computer can be wrong? What does this
mean for future applications of AI into society?

Although one may learn from the past, that alone cannot provide the answers for
tomorrow any more than one can drive a car by staring into the rearview mirror.
Property Development
and Food Policy
For the city of
Aurora, Colorado, property development and food policy go hand-in-hand. The
Sustainable Infill and Redevelopment (SIR) Zoning District is located along
major streets and was designed to “support new businesses and maximize living
choices.” Aurora is targeting strip centers that are experiencing increased
vacancy but that have existing infrastructure to make projects more
economically feasible—in comparison to greenfield development. The city
developed a handbook with methods of achieving the development standards in the
zoning regulations for the SIR.
The handbook covers
many aspects of redevelopment, such as complete streets, parking, energy
efficiency and density, as well as local food production. With a goal of
building more self-reliant food economies, the handbook identifies five
priorities to be incorporated in redevelopment based on the site
characteristics:
Construct infrastructure for local food
production such as community gardens, greenhouses, and rooftop gardens.
Provide infrastructure for on-site
composting.
Provide farmers’ markets or local food
distribution sites.
Provide retail space for locally produced
food. Plant fruit and nut trees.
Provide for front, side, and backyard
gardens.
Grants to Businesses to
Supply Fresh Produce
In areas of the city
where fresh produce is limited or not available within three-quarters-of-a-mile
walking distance, the city is providing grants to businesses to supply fresh
food. The grants are made possible through a “Communities Putting Prevention to
Work” initiative that was awarded to the Tri-County Health Department by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The city mapped
grocery stores and identified those areas that meet the criteria. “Eligible
locations must not be within a one-half mile radius of a grocery store that
currently provides 500 square feet of floor space dedicated to fresh produce.”
Two existing markets and one new market received funding to enable them to
offer fresh fruits and vegetables. The markets were selected by a committee
that reviews applications to ensure they meet grant requirements. The committee
also takes into consideration the applicants that have the potential to have
the broadest impact on the community.

with the Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems. More

Epistemology
Epistemology is
intertwined with the common discipline of philosophy. Both are essentially the
process of understanding "truth," and determining the nature of
"knowledge." Though this subject has been interpreted since the era
of classical Greece, epistemology continues to have a major global impact on
political and social activity in the 21st century.
Derived from the
concept of the Greek term epistome, meaning "knowledge," it is
coupled with the term ology, meaning "science." There are three
primary questions of epistemology: What is knowledge? How did we acquire the
knowledge? How do we know what we know? The aggregate result is awareness of
the essence of what is commonly considered the understanding of truth, or
"philosophy." There are essentially two schools of thought in the discipline,
with the many various theories extending from the two. It is essentially the
study of human existence.
The two primary
schools of thought were developed in the 4th century B.C. Modern epistemology
began its advancement in this period with the writings of Plato. The periodical
beginning was prior to Platonist writings, by virtue of his experience with his
mentor, Socrates. Socrates wrote nothing and technically was not a philosopher.
He was a sage moralist, very similar to the concept of Jesus, and most
information on Socrates came from Plato.
Sometimes it is
difficult to tell the difference between the two, given that Plato wrote the
primary accounts of Socrates' teachings. The era of Plato was one of a volatile
political environment. From Socrates comes the concept of the soul, or psyche,
allowing for individual moral thought without need of direction from the
perceptive governmental super-parent, though he would identify that as his
reasoning for accepting his fate at his trial for impiety.
Plato's early theory
development occurred while the local authorities were busy prosecuting
Socrates. He was fortunate enough politically to establish his school later and
begin teaching his concept of "becoming," based on the theory of the
individual spirit that Socrates had claimed. The essence of his theory of forms
couples with his theory of Ascension to the One and became the template for
most contemporary religion.
Plato suggested that
individuals have a priori, or innate, knowledge. People are essentially imperfect
spiritual habitual entities in a physical and changing world and we are
attempting to be perfect, but our imperfect constantly-changing condition
prohibits that status in this lifetime. What we are attempting to be in this
imperfect life is what we will be in the next dimension of eternity, which
eliminates the condition of change. In Plato's political writings this theory
gets collectivized, as his preferred form of social structure and government
was sympathetic to the ruling class, suggesting that society was best served
with leadership, or rule, under a philosopher/king.
Plato's primary
student was Aristotle. After being trained in this particular understanding of
knowledge, Aristotle rejected the premise. He claimed that knowledge was a
posteriori, or external. Termed the concept of "being," Aristotle
said that knowledge required empirical evidence. Laying out the foundation for
materialism, Aristotle claimed that evidence of knowing stems from experience
and observation, not merely from internal thought. He did not completely reject
Plato's concept of internal existence, but suggested everyone is born with a
"blank slate" and we are all essentially products of our experiences
and environment.
His concept of moral
virtue was also different from Plato. Instead of a collective or appointed
morality, which Plato may have suggested as an appeasement to the ruling class,
Aristotle claimed that moral virtue was a hexus, or a state of mind, involving
the individual, concerning choice, and lying in a mean, whereby the individual
acts rationally according to reason and properly feels the emotions and desires
associated with the action.
Politics being
essentially how we exercise our attitudes toward other individuals, regardless
of station in life, his definition of moral virtue has been the anchor of his
political teachings. He rejected the necessity of a monarchy in a society where
the reasoning ability of the common individual was collectively sufficient to
provide an orderly social structure with a minimal power structure.
From these two
distinct schools of thought all later philosophers would arise. They establish
some premises for political and spiritual theoretic splits as well. With every
understanding of knowledge being either internal or external by laws of
physics, metaphysics becomes the foundation, for not only how we understand
knowledge, but how we should morally move forward as a society and apply the
knowledge effectively.

Mercantilism
Mercantilism is the
use of the state to fulfill one's personal objectives and self-interest. The
use of the state, conflating private with public, allows the individual or
small group to obtain clout that would otherwise not be feasible.
Mercantilism, the
realizing of private goals for individuals or small groups through public
means, has a long and ancient history, doubtless as long as humankind itself.
From the beginning of the Neolithic period when humankind invented cities,
humans sought mercantilist advantage.
Wherever there have
been seats of power, there has been mercantilism, which eventually corrodes the
process of the state and infuriates its citizens. The American exception was
set up to counteract mercantilism by diffusing power in such a way that there would
be no one place that a mercantilist entity could find a forceful enough lever
of power to pull.
But over time the
American system's power has been concentrated, nonetheless. Individuals running
for federal and even state office are now willing to spend hundreds of millions
of dollars to gain access to concentrations of power.
Of course, America is
not alone in its concentrations of power in the modern age. The European Union
has concentrated power extensively at the top and so has China. Each of these modern
states is in its own way an invitation to mercantilism. In fact, one could say
that an energetic power elite, behind much of the organization of great Western
states, has created these systems in this matter so as to enhance mercantilist
convenience.
The most prominent
modern mercantilist movement, of course, is the long-term effort by the power
elite to utilize Western governments for any one of a number of global
promotions. Perhaps the strongest of these is the central banking promotion
itself, which combines every aspect of public power with private banking.
The power elite, the
larger monetary elite and the public bureaucracy have all combined to create
the central banking dominant social theme. The most powerful example of this
theme or meme is the US Federal Reserve, which is in every way a mercantilist
endeavor – conflating the public good with private interests.
Run by the elite,
developed secretly by the elite, the Fed poses as a public benefit when in fact
its decisions are made by a handful of private men and the money it prints out
of thin air must necessarily benefit the "powers that be" that
created the Fed in the first place. It may be that historians look back and
declare that the 20th century and parts of the 21st are to be known as the
"Mercantilist Era."

Richard Kelly Hoskins
(born 1928) is American author and activist. It is claimed he introduced the

academy in Waynesboro and then joined the Air Force during the Korean War.

Stock markets have
been in free fall since last Wednesday when Ben Bernanke indicated the Fed
would not trigger more "quantitative easing."
He would not inject
more currency (credit) into the US economy. Credit is the oxygen that makes the
economy sizzle or fizzle.
Oil and other
commodities are cratering while gold is treading water, trying to make up its
mind.
Had Bernanke said he
was injecting another $500 billion into the economy, the market would have
soared and everyone would be partying instead of ripping their garments.
It's hard to feel
sorry for people who forfeit control over their monetary policy to a foreign
private cartel of Satanist families.
All our so-called
leaders are agents of this cartel. Our mass media and cultural leaders are
owned by them. Acquiescence in their fraud is a prerequisite for professional
advancement.
This fraud has
spawned all the others: the two world wars, the Great Depression, the Cold war
etc. The people have been easily duped and played their roles.
We have forfeited our
freedom for a good feed. Now we're discovering that we're the dinner.
There should be no
such thing as "sovereign debt."
Currency (credit) is just a medium of exchange like a coupon.
Governments can create as much as they need debt-free to make the economy hum.
Markets will determine their value relative to other currencies.
But the Illuminati
bankers have created all currency in the form of a debt to them. Our society is
wholly complicit in this fraud.
It is not Greek or
German or French or Spanish banks that are getting the bailouts. They all got
the virtual "money" from the Illuminati families. The banks are just
a front for these families.

need the "money" back. It was created out of thin air. This is just a

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
As we have seen, the
Cabalist Jewish bankers (the Illuminati) have a long-range plan for the
ascendance of their "Messiah."
Actually the anti-Christ, he will be "the King of the Jews" to
be selected from the House of Rothschild. Most Jews are not privy to this plan.
The Illuminati Jews
realized it will not happen by itself. The first step was the re-establishment
of the State of Israel. The Rothschilds did this by colonizing Palestine and
engineering the Dreyfus Affair and Nazism.

Our understanding of physics accelerated throughout the 20th century with theories on the Big Bang, inflation and the inflaton field, string theory, M-theory, supersymmetry, quantum mechanics, parallel worlds, bubble universes and much more. It's truly fascinating to observe all this as a conscious being sitting inside the very universe we're all trying to figure out, and one thing I really appreciate about physicists in general is that they require an extraordinarily convincing burden of proof before they announce something to be "discovered."
That's in great contrast to the pharmaceutical industry which essentially just "makes stuff up" and passes it off as "science." Drug companies give science a terrible name, but physicists are the redeeming individuals who help restore credibility to the very name "science."
(For example, in clinical drug trials, a pharmaceutical only has to work on five percent of the test group in order to receive FDA approval as "safe and effective for everyone!" In the realm of particle physics and cosmology, however, experiments usually have to reach a level of certainty approaching 2,999,999 out of three million (5 sigma), thereby leaving only one chance in three million of the conclusion being wrong. Now that's what I call confidence!)
This is why physicists, chemists and other "hard sciences" people who end up throwing their hats in with the pharmaceutical / vaccine / chemotherapy industries only end up discrediting themselves. The for-profit health care industry is largely based on quackery that merely borrows the label of "science" but follows none of its stringent requirements for proof. Physics and cosmology, in great contrast, has (almost) nothing to patent and nothing to sell to the public at monopolistic prices. Particle physics, cosmology and even quantum field theory is truly all about the quest for knowledge and not about hyping up some false pandemic to sell more dangerous vaccines to an unsuspecting public.
Even with the extreme attention to evidentiary detail, however, there's still something the physicists have been overlooking for a long, long time: Consciousness.

5 Foods for a High
Protein Vegetarian Diet
In today’s McWorld,
we often equate protein with a greasy, drippy burger. Protein is, in fact, a
matter of amino acids, and it abounds in the plant kingdom. The trick is in
knowing where to find it, knowledge that is especially needed be vegans and
vegetarians. RDA recommendations for protein are from 0.36 to 0.45 grams per
pound of body weight a day. That’s only 15 to 20% of calories—an amount easily
attainable when including these foods for a high protein vegetarian diet.
High Protein
Vegetarian Diet –
1. Dairy Products and
Eggs
We’ll get the
vegan-unfriendly source out of the way first.
The average egg contains 6 grams of protein and 5 grams of unsaturated
(good) fat and only 1.5 grams of the bad kind.
Try to buy organic and local to ensure that your eggs come from healthy,
happy chickens. (Unhealthy and unhappy
chickens produce eggs with lower nutrient content!)
Greek yogurt is lower
in sugar and has more good fats than do most conventional yogurts which are
loaded with sugar, additives, and hormones from cows. Look for varieties with live active cultures;
they contain good bacteria to regulate your digestion.
Whey—a milk
byproduct—is easily absorbed by the body and packs the proverbial punch with up
to 25 grams of protein per scoop – making it great to include for a high
protein vegetarian diet. Try the unflavored variety to avoid additives and
throw in your own organic fruits or cocoa powder.
2. Tempeh and Tofu
There’s been much
talk lately of soy mimicking estrogen and leading to higher risk of cancers,
but not enough research has been conducted.
To play it safe, avoid processed soy and go for fermented types, like
tempeh. Tempeh even has more protein
than tofu—30 grams versus 22 grams per cup, respectively.
Soy- and tofu-based
mock-meats are often filled with starchy, unhealthy, and unnatural additives
you’re better off without.
3. Quinoa
While often mistaken
for a grain (it’s actually a seed), quinoa boasts 9 grams of protein per
cup. For those of us with gluten
concerns, quinoa is low on the glycemic index and is a rich source for both
soluble and insoluble fiber. You’ll also
get a good dose of vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium, and folate.
4. Vegetables and
Legumes
Surprised? Even the humble broccoli (1 cup) has 5 grams
of protein, as does 2 cups of kale and 1 cup of cooked sweet potato. A single avocado has 10 grams of protein!
If you’re not too
worried about carbohydrates, 1 cup of lentils, refried beans, and garbanzo
beans have 18, 15.5, and 14.5 grams of protein respectively.

You may not be able
to imagine that borax, this humble insecticide and laundry detergent, has the
potential of singlehandedly bringing down our entire economic system. But you
do not need to worry, the danger has been recognised and the necessary steps
are already being taken to defuse the situation. I will start with the basics
and you will understand what I mean as the story unfolds.
Borax is a naturally
occurring and mined mineral salt and the source of other manufactured boron
compounds. The main deposits are in Turkey and California. Chemical names are
sodium tetraborate decahydrate, disodium tetraborate decahydrate, or simply
sodium borate. This means it contains four atoms of boron as its central feature
combined with two sodium atoms and ten molecules (or sometimes less) of
crystallisation water. All borax is naturally mined, there is no synthetic
borax, the difference is only how much crystallisation water it contains -
decahydrate means 10 water molecules, pentahydrate means 5, and anhydrite means
0 water; chemically it is all the same.
Therefore, borax is
the sodium salt of the weak boric acid. Because sodium is more strongly
alkaline, this makes a solution of borax strongly alkaline with a pH between 9
and 10 (pH 7 is neutral). When ingested, it reacts with hydrochloric acid in
the stomach to form boric acid and sodium chloride. The boron content of Borax
is 11.3% while for boric acid it is 17.5% or about 50% higher. Ingested boron
compounds are rapidly and nearly completely excreted with the urine. Formerly
boric acid was widely used as a preservative in foods but is now banned for
this purpose in most countries, and is also banned from public sale in
Australia.
According to
conventional medicine it is not known if boron is essential for humans but
research shows that we do need it. The reason why it was difficult to answer
this question is the presence of boron in all plants and unprocessed foods.
Diets with a fair amount of fruit and vegetables provide about 2 to 5 mg of
boron per day, but this also depends on the region where the food was grown and
how it was grown.
In reality the
average intake in developed countries is 1-2 mg of boron per day.
Institutionalized patients may receive only 0.25 mg of daily boron. Chemical
fertilizers inhibit the uptake of boron from the soil: an organic apple grown in good soil may have
20 mg boron, but if grown with fertilizer it may have only 1 mg of boron.
Fertilizers combined with poor food choices have greatly reduced our boron
intake compared to 50 or 100 years ago.
Further, unhealthy
cooking methods greatly reduce the availability of boron from food. The cooking
water of vegetables containing most of the minerals may be discarded during
home cooking or commercial processing; phytic acid in baked goods, cereals and
cooked legumes may greatly reduce availability, while gluten sensitivity and
Candida overgrowth inhibit the absorption of minerals. All this makes health
problems due to boron deficiency now very common.
Health Effects of Boron
Due to their content
of boron, borax and boric acid have basically the same health effects, with
good antiseptic, antifungal, and antiviral properties but only mild
antibacterial action. In plants as well as animals boron is essential for the
integrity and function of cell walls, and the way signals are transmitted
across membranes.
Boron is distributed
throughout the body with the highest concentration in the parathyroid glands,
followed by bones and dental enamel. It is essential for healthy bone and joint
function, regulating the absorption and metabolism of calcium, magnesium and
phosphorus through its influence on the parathyroid glands. With this boron is
for the parathyroids what iodine is for the thyroid.
Boron deficiency causes
the parathyroids to become overactive, releasing too much parathyroid hormone
which raises the blood level of calcium by releasing calcium from bones and
teeth. This then leads to osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis,
osteoporosis and tooth decay. With advancing age high blood levels of calcium
lead to calcification of soft tissues causing muscle contractions and
stiffness; calcification of endocrine glands, especially the pineal gland and
the ovaries; arteriosclerosis, kidney stones, and calcification of the kidneys
ultimately leading to kidney failure. Boron deficiency combined with magnesium
deficiency is especially damaging to the bones and teeth.
Boron affects the
metabolism of steroid hormones, and especially of sex hormones. It increases
low testosterone levels in men and oestrogen levels in menopausal women. It
also has a role in converting vitamin D to its active form, thus increasing
calcium uptake and deposition into bone and teeth rather than causing soft
tissue to calcify. Also other beneficial effects have been reported such as
improvement of heart problems, vision, psoriasis, balance, memory and
cognition.
The German cancer
researcher Dr Paul-Gerhard Seeger has shown that cancer commonly starts with
the deterioration of cell membranes. As boron is essential for cell membranes
and boron deficiency widespread, this may be an important cause for the
initiation of tumour growth. Boron compounds have anti-tumour properties and
are "potent anti-osteoporotic, anti-inflammatory, hypolipemic,
anti-coagulant and anti-neoplastic agents"

Protection from Boron, Bentonite Clay and Fulvic Minerals
I’ve been seeing
several posts and getting a few phone calls about the potential effects of
radiation fallout from the Japanese Nuclear Reactor meltdowns. These posts
