Shorris, a former advertising executive, here chronicles the change in perception of salespeople, once considered cheats but now seen as cultural heroes. For society, argues Shorris, this change does not bode well. The United States has embraced the ways of the salesperson to such an extent that it poses a threat to individuality, creativity, and spirituality. Shorris's book is wonderfully written, challenging, and scholarly. Although it is a work of philosophy, each chapter opens with cautionary parables about refugees of our commercial culture. Shorris excels at warning the reader about the dictatorship of "Homo vendens" but unfortunately spends little time on what we should do to change it. Recommended for economics, political science, and philosophy collections.

A turgid, self-indulgent treatment of a rich topic: how ``selling has achieved dominion over the world in our time.'' Shorris (Latinos, 1992) long combined life as a writer with a top position at the N.W. Ayer advertising agency. ``I needed the job,'' he confesses. Unfortunately, his mea/nostra culpa is only infrequently a memoir; rather, he prefaces each chapter with parablelike fictions featuring unnamed salesfolk--though some ``have a worldly double''--not necessarily linked to the following text. Further contributing to the book's meandering nature is its scope: Shorris aims to begin at the Beginning. So he locates the archetypal salesman in the serpent of the Garden of Eden and its counterparts in other religious epics. He takes us through Plato and Charlemagne, Max Weber and Adam Smith, television and credit. However, he is given to sweeping statements: Salesmen, as mediators, ``cannot find a place for their economic loyalties''; and ``Bill Clinton does not sell in order to govern; he governs in order to sell.'' There are nuggets of interest: Shorris dissects the advertising titans' specious argument that their work aids national productivity; former General Motors chairman Roger Smith- -in one of a few interviews sprinkled through the book (two of them with the author's sons)--recounts his successful courting of Toyota. Shorris's grand conclusion, however, is that the archetypal Western person is homo vendens, the salesman, building a society without dignity, thus susceptible to tyranny. And so: ``The choice in our time is not to die but to think,'' to value knowledge above things. Okay. But others have better tackled this territory, either through close journalistic portraits (David Dorsey's The Force, p. 358) or more focused essays (Barry Schwartz's The Costs of Freedom, p. 538). In one of the many quotes prefacing chapters, Shorris even reproduces part of his proposal for this book. In this case, it seems, he's a better salesman than author. It was arranged well ahead of the planned first Great War, that England would declare Turkey its enemy, gain control of Palestine, and hand it over to the Jews. It happened as planned. During the war British leaders beholden to Zionist powers diverted men, weapons and planes from France to Palestine just prior to the German invasion of France, endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of soldiers, and the possible outcome of the war. . . except they knew the U.S. would come to their rescue.
Why did the Zionists specifically want Palestine?
First, it served to fulfill the mandates of Jehovah that his 'chosen' would be given this territory as their reward for obeying all his bloody statutes. In their arguments to get what they wanted, Zionist leaders claimed that, "the Bible is our mandate". In fact, for the Jews, their mandate is the Torah and the Talmud, not the Bible.
Secondly, the land in that area contains rich natural resources beyond comprehension. According to George W. Armstrong, in his book, The Zionists:
"The value of the minerals of the Dead Sea is estimated at five trillion dollars. This estimate appears to be optimistic but it is supported in part by the report of the Crown Agents of the British Colonies entitled "Production of Minerals From the Waters of the Dead Sea" (page 2).
It is alleged that all copies of this booklet containing this report have been destroyed except those in the British Museum, Colonial Office, and House of Commons.
This official report estimates the minerals, except oil, in 1925 as follows: Magnesium Chloride, 22,000 tons, value 600 billion dollars; Potassium Chloride, 20,000 tons, value 75 billion dollars; other minerals valued at 1,200 billion dollars; or a total of about three trillion dollars, exclusive of oil.
This enormous value staggers the imagination. I am unable to appraise the effect on the human race if the Zionists gain undisputed title to it, or if it should be devoted to public use. "
Mr. Armstrong did not mention the mineral and oil wealth of the Negev area, which was also included in the partitioning process. The Rothschilds were well aware of these facts. The land stolen from the Arab Palestinians by the Zionists is considered veritably the Jewel Box of the world. (Appendix C ).
It boggles the mind to realize the wealth controlled by virtue of those natural resources alone, and to be aware of the fact that Americans have supported Israel to the tune of $10 billion a year, plus, since its very inception. Then there's the over-$100 billion Germans have paid in reparations, plus all the hundreds of millions of dollars bilked out of the lesser brethren for the cause.
To confirm the early pre-planning of that first world war, Norman Dodd, Executive Director of the Reese Congressional Committee that was formed in 1953 to investigate tax exempt foundations, explains that: When he visited the Carnegie Endowment he was told that his request to view their records would be difficult because
"with the ratification by the Senate of the United States of the UN Treaty, our job was finished",
...so therefore, all records were in a warehouse.
(The fact is there exists no 'treaty' with the UN Organization since the Constitution provides for the U.S. to enter into treaties only with other nations. We must keep firmly in mind that the U.S. is merely a dues-paying member of that Organization and owes it no allegiance nor duty to obey its mandates. Other treaties and entangling alliances that are destructive to the peace, safety and wellbeing of Americans can and should be terminated.)
Mr. Dodd was invited to go to the warehouse and view the minutes of past meetings of the trustees of the Carnegie Endowment if he wished. In his testimony before an Illinois Senate Committee in 1978, Mr. Dodd told the state legislators - among other discoveries in the Carnegie meeting minutes - that:
"Now, we are back in the period of 1908, and these minutes reported the following: The Trustees . . . bring up a single question; namely, if it is desirable to alter the life of an entire people, is there any means more efficient than war to gain that end? And they discuss this question. . . and they come up with an answer-- there are no known means more efficient than war, assuming the objective is altering the life of an entire people.
That leads, then, to a question: How do we involve the United States in a war?
This was in 1909. I doubt if there was any question more removed, or any idea more removed from the minds of us, as a people, at that time than war. There were certain of what we call 'intermittent shows' in the Balkans, and I also doubt if very many of us knew, really, where the Balkans was, or their relation or possible effect on us.
. . . oh, before that, the Trustees then answered the question of how to involve us in a war by saying, 'we must control the diplomatic machinery of the United States'; and . . . the answer is 'we must control the State Department'.
Now, at that point, research discloses a relationship between the effort to control the State Department and an entity which the Carnegie Endowment set up – namely, the Council of Learned Societies. And through that entity are cleared all of the appointments – high appointments in the State Department, and they have continued to be cleared that way since then.
Now, finally, we are in a war. Eventually, the war is over, and the Trustees turn their attention, then, to seeing to it that life does not revert in this country to what it was prior to 1914; and they hit upon the idea that in order to prevent that reversion, they must control education in this country. They realized that that is a perfectly tremendous, really stupendous and complex task – much too great for them alone. So they approached the Rockefeller Foundation, with the suggestion that the task be divided between the two of them."
The Council of Learned Societies that Mr. Dodd mentions, undoubtedly became or was replaced by the Council on Foreign Relations which members have dominated the U.S. State Department since before World War II. Think about the alleged 'cause' of that first great war. Where did it begin? The Archduke of Austria was assassinated by a Jew in Sarajevo; Austria declared war. In 1909, five years earlier, the world troublemakers planned it that way.
It has also been written by historical researchers that the reason the war was held off until 1914 was that the same group that orchestrates and executes wars -- the International Zionist Bankers - first wanted the U.S. to pass the Federal Reserve Act so the American people could pay for the costs of the war. The Federal Reserve Act passed in December, 1913, The Great War broke out in 1914, as planned. We've paid and paid and paid.

James Joseph argues in “Ayn Rand’s Paradox” that Rand’s “defense of individual freedom provides a self-defeating apologia for the American welfare state.” Mr. Joseph’s essay takes the communitarian view that, without the bulwark of “natural community” (including “shared duties” or “natural duties and obligations” or “claims from direct community”), the individual becomes increasingly reliant on government for every benefit in life.
Yet Mr. Joseph’s analysis portrays Ayn Rand as espousing a view that no serious thinker has ever held – the canard of atomistic individualism, which is often used by communitarians against those who do not think that communities can exist as superior entities apart from and greater than the individuals who constitute them. Mr. Joseph believes that “In fact, American statism’s apologia is the individual freedom so touted by Ayn Rand, complete with her denial of the claims of the community on the individual. One need look no further than the ‘Life of Julia’ campaign to see that American statism is built around the idea of highly independent, atomized individuals that cannot be bothered with claims from direct community.”
True individualism is far from atomistic, and Rand saw this clearly. She wrote, for instance, that “Man gains enormous values from dealing with other men; living in a human society is his proper way of life—but only on certain conditions. Man is not a lone wolf and he is not a social animal. He is a contractual animal. He has to plan his life long-range, make his own choices, and deal with other men by voluntary agreement (and he has to be able to rely on their observance of the agreements they entered).” (“A Nation’s Unity,” The Ayn Rand Letter, II, 2, 3)
But Rand also correctly saw the individual as being primary and precedent to any “community” or “society” – although the conditions of a society can certainly constrain or empower an individual. In response to the questions “Is man a social animal?” and “Can he develop only in society?” Rand stated: “Man does live in society, not on a desert island. But that does not mean society ‘develops’ him. The expression ‘develops in society’ implies that man is a social animal. I believe no such thing. The issue here is: What is primary in a man’s development, society or his mind? Of course, his mind has primacy. Society cannot make or unmake him. An immoral society can mangle him and make it enormously difficult for him to develop properly psychologically. A rational society can help a man’s development a great deal. In a mixed society, the best minds and those who are strongest morally might withstand the pressure from society, whereas the average person will find it beyond his individual capacity and give up. Society cannot form a person. It cannot force him to accept ideas; but it can discourage him. Nevertheless, that doesn’t make man a social animal.” (Ayn Rand Answers: The Best of Her Q&A, edited by Robert Mayhew)
Rand properly recognized that individuals are not better off in insulated vacuums, apart from all other people. She acknowledged that man stands to gain greatly from interactions in society – but he can also come to great harm thereby. The question for Rand, and for all individualists, is not whether one should stand apart from society, but rather which relationships within society are most conducive to the flourishing of the individual, and which are to his detriment.

My Scientology Story

From the time I posted my resignation on this blog, I’ve had many requests from friends, acquaintances and social media followers to share my Scientology story.
It is a story of betrayal and loss.
Seeing friends have their life shortened because of misapplication of the Scientology technology.
My story is a story of gradually discovering for myself how so many individuals have had their human rights violated by an organization that pounds their chests while pontificating about how they are defenders of human rights. This was a journey that took time – time to reconcile all of the contradictions that I had been willing to live with for 15 years, which resulted in my awakening and being able to see things for what they are.
This awakening takes as long as it takes.
It is a story of bait and switch, lies from recruiters, and being stalked by Sea Organization members and IAS membership officers demanding even more financial contributions without any accountability for where these dollars go.
I have lived through and survived their policies and practices of Disconnection and Fair Game.
And yes, I too have loved ones who are still trapped behind the Iron Curtain of Thought Stopping and Mind Control.
So yes, I will tell my story. At the appropriate time.

Born to poverty, the largely self-educated London became a sailor, hobo, Alaskan gold miner, and militant socialist. He gained a wide audience with his first book, The Son of the Wolf (1900), and the story To Build a Fire (1908). Thereafter he wrote steadily; his 50 books of fiction and nonfiction, including many romantic depictions of elemental struggles for survival as well as socialist tracts, include The Call of the Wild (1903), The Sea-Wolf (1904), White Fang (1906), The Iron Heel (1907), Martin Eden (1909), and Burning Daylight (1910).

London joined the Socialist Labor Party in April 1896. In the same year, the San Francisco Chronicle published a story about the twenty-year-old London giving nightly speeches in Oakland's City Hall Park, an activity he was arrested for a year later. In 1901, he left the Socialist Labor Party and joined the new Socialist Party of America. He ran unsuccessfully as the high-profile Socialist nominee for mayor of Oakland in 1901 (receiving 245 votes) and 1905 (improving to 981 votes), toured the country lecturing on socialism in 1906, and published collections of essays about socialism (The War of the Classes, 1905; Revolution, and other Essays, 1906). As London explained in his essay, "How I Became a Socialist", his views were influenced by his experience with people at the bottom of the social pit. His optimism and individualism faded, and he vowed never to do more hard work than necessary. He wrote that his individualism was hammered out of him, and he was politically reborn. He often closed his letters "Yours for the Revolution."
In his Glen Ellen ranch years, London felt some ambivalence toward socialism and complained about the "inefficient Italian labourers" in his employ. In 1916, he resigned from the Glen Ellen chapter of the Socialist Party, but stated emphatically he did so "because of its lack of fire and fight, and its loss of emphasis on the class struggle."
Stasz notes that "London regarded the Wobblies as a welcome addition to the Socialist cause, although he never joined them in going so far as to recommend sabotage." Stasz mentions a personal meeting between London and Big Bill Haywood in 1912.
Influence on writing
London wrote from a socialist viewpoint, which is evident in his novel The Iron Heel. Neither a theorist nor an intellectual socialist, London's socialism grew out of his life experience.
In his late (1913) book The Cruise of the Snark, London writes, without empathy about appeals to him for membership of the Snark's crew from office workers and other "toilers" who longed for escape from the cities, and of being cheated by workmen.
In an unflattering portrait of London's ranch days, Kevin Starr (1973) refers to this period as "post-socialist" and says "... by 1911 ... London was more bored by the class struggle than he cared to admit."

Dr. John C. Lilly died on September 30th, 2001, in Los Angeles, of heart failure. Dr. Lilly was best known for his work with dolphins and interspecies communication, his development of the isolation tank, and his research into altered states of consciousness. The main characters in two popular films, The Day of the Dolphin and Altered States, were based on Dr. Lilly.
Born January 6, l915, in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Rachel and Richard Lilly, Lilly was educated at St. Paul Academy, California Institute of Technology, Dartmouth College Medical School, and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. During WWII, he conducted high altitude research at the Johnson Foundation for Medical Physics. After the war, he trained as a psychoanalyst.
While a Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, Lilly worked at the National Institutes of Health, where he developed the isolation tank, which came to be known as the "Lilly tank". In l959, he established the Communication Research Institute in the U.S. Virgin Islands to study the vocalizations of Bottlenose dolphins. The work later continued in San Francisco under the aegis of the JANUS Project. He also established the Human Dolphin Foundation, and worked with Samadhi Tank company to help popularize the isolation tank experience.
From the late sixties until he retired to Hawaii in l992, Dr. Lilly worked from his home lab in Malibu, California. He traveled extensively, teaching and lecturing at academic institutions, international conferences, and growth centers like Esalen, where he was a long-standing artist in residence.

There are also small, portable, white and pink noise generators. Such as the Neurophone GRS which has transducers that go on the skin and saturate the body with healthy sacred geometry golden section ratio frequencies. I call this the anti HAARP formula. The Neurophone DSP has a pink noise generator built in. Neurophone technology allows the brain to "hear" directly through the nervous system without using the ears. It is now a highly effective tool for learning, relaxation, balancing both hemisphere's of the brain and meditation. The Neurophone induces high alpha and theta waves.

Since we humans are Carbon based as are the pyramids, the 51 degree, 51 minute, 14.3 second base angle pyramid geometry matches the carbon atom geometry (only the scale size is larger) this then saturates the body with healthy vibratory frequencies that cause the cells to bind properly. The HBO host implicated Dinesh D’Souza in his 2002 firing from ABC.
An appearance by conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza on HBO’s Real Time turned into an unpleasant trip down memory lane, when host Bill Maher confronted the director about his apparent role in events leading to the comedian's firing from ABC in 2002.
The 2016: Obama’s America director appeared on Maher’s Politically Incorrect on the now infamous 2001 episode in which Maher said the 9/11 hijackers were not cowards, because they had the guts to fly planes into buildings.
"We have been the cowards. Lobbing cruise missiles from two thousand miles away,” Maher said on the episode. Those comments sparked an outrage that contributed to Politically Incorrect's cancellation the following June.
On Real Time, Maher read a portion of the episode's transcript, which showed his controversial comments came after D’Souza first called the 9/11 hijackers brave.
Maher said he was simply agreeing with D’Souza about the hijackers.
But D’Souza said Maher took his comments a step too far by claiming the U.S. had been cowardly. (D’Souza had called the hijackers brave on Politically Incorrect, but had not called the U.S. cowardly.)
“That’s what got the veteran’s upset. That’s what got the Disney people upset. And that’s how you got booted off the air,” D’Souza said. “Not because of me. Because of you.”

If I told you Chicago and Moscow formed a sister school relationship in the 80s this would make even more sense.
The predecessor to the 90s OBE was Mastery Learning and it was piloted in the Chicago schools as reading instruction. When it was a fiasco, they changed the name and kept going. Benjamin Bloom. His close friend, mentor, and the head of their Social Sciences Dept at U Chicago first invented the term assessment in the 30s to obscure the lack of knowledge emphasis in the Progressive Ed Association/accreditor run 8 Year Study.
Ralph Tyler created the term objectives to function the same way outcomes does today. He also wrote much of the ESEA for Johnson and developed the NAEP that gathers so much useful info on attitudes and is not the Nation’s Report Card most people think.

Dr. Ian Reifowitz, author of Obama’s America: A Transformative Vision of Our National Identity, says that Obama embodies true American Values, and his presidency and re-election is the sign that America is actually waking up to that fact. In an interview Reifowitz debates THREE IMPORTANT MARKERS that show this is true:
I. Is the American Identity defined by “Involuntary Ethnic Racial Terms” or by “Voluntary Civic Terms?”
a. The Right continues to define Americanism by race (aka, elite, male, white culture); Obama in words and identity embodies the true idea that to be American is to espouse voluntary civic responsibilities regardless of race.
b. Historically, the powers that controlled America defined a National Identity that is too heavily focused on a white, male, elite culture. Even today, this is conventional wisdom. Obama’s election and presidency mark a better American Ideal that we should aspire to.
II. Is the American Identity marked by a government that “Benefits the Elite” or “Favors everyone?”
a. The Right calls it “Trickle Down” economics, Obama embodies fairness and a government built to help the weakest in society.
III. Is the American Identity based on “Narrow cultural Assimilation” or “Multiculturalism”?
a. The Right continues to define America by goading its immigrant population into “assimilating,” which is really forcing it into a culture that is white, male and elite. Obama embodies Multiculturalism, where diversity in gender and ethnicity is empowered.
It’s not just ABOUT flying a flag, or singing the national anthem, or celebrating the 4th of July. Pop culture has made it about these things for too long. IT’S TIME TO GET DEEPER.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ian Reifowitz is a professor of history at the State University of New York-Empire State College, and has won several honors in his academic life, including the Susan H. Turben Award for Excellence in Scholarship. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Brown University and a PhD in history from Georgetown University.
Reifowitz’s articles on American politics have appeared in Newsday, The New Republic, The Post-Star, among many other publications, and he is a regular contributor to the DailyKos political blog. His academic articles have been published in the Journal of Jewish Identities, Nationalities Papers, the East European Quarterly, and several other publications.

Thanks for sharing your work. I happen to be covering this subject in my latest book. It will seem like I'm jumping off topic when I say this, but both Kissinger and Reagan made allusions of the importance of an extra-terrestrial threat to unite the world.
While this may sound like merely a strange off-hand remark, the US government has been closely connected with the fabrication of the UFO myth. It starts with the War of the Worlds broadcast by Orson Welles, which was studied by the Frankfurt School, the Freudian intellectuals who essentially fabricated modern American culture, particularly the sexual revolution of the 60s.
The key figure in that "revolution" was Frankfurt Schooler Herbert Marcuse. Closely aligned with the FS was the Tavistock institute, who implemented most of the FS's bizarre designs.
For the most part, these took place through the notorious Esalen Institute in Big Sur, which was affiliated with Aldous Huxley, the key person in the CIA's MK-Ultra project to promote the use of LSD through "sex, drugs and rock 'n roll".
As revealed in The Stargate Conspiracy, it was in connection with Esalen that Andrija Puharich started conducting experiments on psychics on behalf of the CIA. This started with the famous spoon-bender, Uri Geller. And this led to contact with "the Nine". These entities claimed to be the same as the Ennead, the nine gods worshipped by the ancient Egyptians.
This was connected to prophecies of Edgar Cayce, about the burial of the "Hall of Records" beneath the Sphinx. This led to a pack of "Egyptologists", led by Zawi Hawass of Egypt, to conduct a number of mysterious experiments that questioned the antiquity of elements of the Giza Plateau. (These ideas were first proposed by a "Synarchist" named Schwaller de Lubicz. Synarchism the system supposedly adopted in Shambhala, and has been closely tied with the creation of the European Union.)
Why? Because of the communications from the Nine, a group of extra-terrestrial entities who claim to come from Sirius. This is where you get things like the mysteries of the Dogon and so on. And then all the "white gods" theorists, especially Graham Hanckock, and the "face on Mars" controversies.
The notion of "white gods" or "ancient astronauts", fueld by Daniken's Chariot of the Gods, and of course Zacharia Sitichin's theories about the Annunaki, actually have an occult origin. It's a Kabbalistic myth of the myth of the Aryan race, created in the eighteenth century. The sons of God who were to have created the Aryans on Atlantis are now "extra-terrestrials." Originally, these myths were elaborated upon especially by H.P. Blavatsky, who placed in Shambhala in Tibet.
These theories then gained influence in the UN with Alice Bailey, and as researchers have discovered, all the so-called "UFO religions" are connected to her teachings. This started with the I AM movement. And typically, they are associated with Neo-Nazism, which believes the Nazis developed UFO technology from contact with entities from Sirius. For example, like one of the first important contactees, George Adamski, who was connected with Neo-Nazi William Dudley Pelley.
Pelley was also associated with another contactee who was working with Puharich.
As John Valle and John Keel have discovered, though both were intent on proving the reality of UFOs when they started their research, it proved to be an illusion, and often in connection with government psy-ops. Contactees rarely ever see ships. They usually see lights. And contacts invariably involve messages of various import, usually involving teachings of a New Age nature, a la Alice Bailey.
Instead, Vallee and Keel proposed the existence of intra-terrestrials, disembodied entities that live in this world, and who have traditionally be equated with demons, ghouls, ghosts, spirits, poltergeist and so on.
This agenda is being pushed from many angles. There's an increasing number of "documentaries" that completely ignore the findings of Vallee and Keel but instead focus on the "research" of authors like Hancock, to consider the possibilities of extra-terrestrial life, and that these beings could have had early contact with humanity when they were worshipped as gods. The 2012 Phenomenon is directly related to this.
At the heart of it all, is an attempt to push the New Age doctrines of Alice Bailey, which are closely tied to attempts to create a New World Religion for a New World Order.
